Run Little Run Little Run Little Courtney

Okay so its been awhile since I have last updated my blog.  I sometimes feel like I repeat myself and have had difficulty with what I was going to post about.  I decided I would post about the Vegas Half, and the Hot Chocolate Run!

If any of you really know me, you know that I despise running.  I truly hate it.  Nothing about running is fun. Nothing about running makes me feel good.  I know its good for me, but I really hate it.  Which I guess is why I try to do it.  If I can do something that I hate, then I can do anything right??

SEVERAL months ago I signed up for the Vegas Half.  I have done 2 half marathons previous to the Vegas, but just so we are all clear, I never trained.  I literally went out and walked 13.1 miles.  And i literally almost died both times.  So if I knew I was going to be doing it, and I was training it couldn't be that bad right?  I trained for a few months, but really never ran over 4 miles.  I was doing Pure Barre at the same time too, which I knew was helping to strengthen my legs, but when it was one week for the Half, I was a little freaked out, I knew I could run to mile 4, push myself and go to 6 maybe but I thought that would be it.

Let me take a quick break to give a shout out to my dad... I am so incredibly proud of him. He did so amazing at his first half marathon ever.  As a matter of fact he pushed me and was my rock throughout the entire race.  He had such a blast, and I couldn't have asked for a better running partner for this race.  Words cannot describe how proud of him I am.

My dad and I were running down the strip, and three miles went by pretty quickly (If you have a chance to run this race, do it! Its awesome, and has great scenery!) and before I knew it we were at mile 6, we were feeling really good at that point in time I though HOLY SHIT im going to actually run the whole damn thing.  At mile 7 I really started to feel it in my feet, and more in my knee.  I have had knee problems in the past, but push through it, I don't want to let it stop me.  Mile 7-9 took a little bit of a turn, we started to get into a neighborhood, it was quieter, and more and more people started walking.  At mile 9 I really hit a wall.  I honestly wasn't sure at that point how much further I could go.  So mile 9 I started walking.  My dad jogged beside me until about 9.5 miles and then started to walk with me.  I promised myself before starting that I would only walk 1 mile at a time.  At mile 10 my dad asked if he could start running (DUH! Don't let me hold you back) and I just couldn't my knee was swelling and I was in so much pain.  I walked from mile 9-12 and I ran in from mile 12 to 13...

I really wanted to be able to run the whole thing but was so proud of myself for running 9 freakin miles!  At mile 7 I was on pace to finish in 3 hours (my goal was 3:15) but since I had to walk and slowed down a lot, I finished in about 3:22.  I promised myself to never run another half, but I know I will, I need to get down to 3 hours. :)

The crazy thing is, people were finishing the full when I was finishing the half! When I finished I luckily found my dad and we stopped to get our chocolate milk, water, Gatorade, bagels, medals, and beer... although I had one sip of water and wanted to be sick.  At least I got the medal right?  We had about another mile and half to two mile walk back to the hotel, which wasn't fun, but probably good for me to not lay down immediately.

Then Thanksgiving came and went, I got back to Pure Barre, and had the Hot Chocolate 5k this past weekend.  A 5k is 3.1 miles which seems like nothing after 13.1 but it was early and and cold and I really wasnt feeling it when I got there.  Parker came to support me, which was awesome, love him for getting up nice and early to come watch me run, or really to watch me start and finish.

That first mile is always the hardest, the most congested, and you have to find your breathing and your pace.  I ended up finishing with a personal best time of under 40 mins, just barely with 39 minutes, but now I am reaching for 35 or under.  So I guess I have to continue to run.  Unfortunately.  As much as I hate it, I really want to get better.

Its a weird addiction.

Non Scale Victories

Okay so I didn't realize it had been that long since I updated my blog, but today I decided I would talk about some "non-scale victories" or NSV... These victories are something I learned from Nutrisystem, and its a victory that goes deeper than the number on the scale.  While the number of the scale is important during weight loss, there are other things that make me happy and that are driving me to continue my journey.

As of right now I am down 20 pounds.. I finally hit the 20 pound mark, I was dancing really close to it for awhile, but I have officially hit 20 pounds down.  So I get a new Nutribear soon! I had a red one, with a 10 on it, at my desk, but now I get to add its blue buddy 20! :) Yay for friends at my desk, and a nice lil Instagram photo of me with it! Ha!

NSV #1... I have been donating LOTS of clothes recently.  If they are too big, I am getting rid of them, because I never plan on wearing that size again! So why keep it, when someone else could get some use out of it.  Maybe I should sell my clothes, but I am feeling pretty good about not making money off of my stuff, and giving to someone that needs it.. #happyholidays? ha!

NSV #2... I bought a dress the other day from The Limited for some weddings that I have coming up.  I bough a Medium... A MEDIUM! uhhh?? Is this even me?? I went to a wedding a year ago in California, and had a dress from The Limited for that wedding as well... It was an X-Large. So just to clarify, the dress I bought the other day is 2 sizes smaller than what I wore a  year ago.  Yeah, you could say I was pretty pumped.  I also had to buy smaller jeans!

NSV #3... A couple weeks ago I hiked a trail called Pyramid that last year I was too terrified to hike because of the shape I was in.  Made it almost all the way without stopping.  I blame my stop on my camelback not working properly, but I did need to take a little bit of a breather :)

NSV #4... I am on day 36 of a 45 day challenge at Pure Barre... I have completed 36 classes in 36 days, and am still going strong.. VICTORY? I think YES!

So these are some of the NSV's I can think of right now.  I honestly wouldn't be able to do any of this without the amazing support of all of my friends and family.  You guys have been awesome.  Its the little things that make such a huge difference.  When I walk into Pure Barre and someone tells me they can tell a difference that makes me feel great! When I have to buy a medium, it just motivates me to get into a small.

The next couple of months will be difficult to get through since sweaters are forgiving ;) but I am excited to continue to see changes in my body.  Thanks so much everyone for reading! If you know anyone that needs some inspiration, send them my blog!

Crazy Life = More Motivation

Well I haven't updated in quite some time, and have been so busy with life, but I figured I better update now, no better time than the present.

I had an awesome week last week and lost 4 pounds!! :) I am going to attribute it to more running, and my hike last week.  I have really noticed the more cardio I do the more weight I lose, or the faster I will lose it.  My heart is with Pure Barre, and it is great for toning and strengthening my legs for running, and for melting off the inches, however running = most pounds gone.

All of the ladies at Pure Barre have been absolutely phenomenal, and I have to take the time to thank them so much for constantly motivating and pushing me!  It is the absolute best when Lauren and Shannon as me how much I've lost, or how I'm doing, or when my next blog post is.  Sara actually mentioned me when someone was talking about weight loss, and that made me feel phenomenal. Bryanna pushes me every single class, and is such an awesome motivator.  Trish, being the newest addition, seriously kicks my butt on Sunday Mornings! Veronica and Marirose even know about my journey, and I see them not nearly as often.  They are all amazing, and if you get the opportunity, definitely check out Pure Barre, it is like a family there, and I am so thankful that I have a place to go when I'm feeling down, motivated, happy, sad, whatever it might be, I always feel GREAT when I leave.

I am down a total of 19 pounds since starting Nutrisystem and my blog, and 39 since January, and am feeling sooo great...but I have to take some time to vent a little, and this is definitely going to sound bratty.  I am having issues when I get ready because my clothes are too big!! I love it, but it is frustrating because I have to go through about 5 outfits EVERY morning before I feel like I look decent! HA! I know its ridiculous, but had to get it off my chest.

I never posted my inches before I started, I kind of forget, but here is a before look at my inches:

Upper Arms : 14in
Chest: 44 in
Waist: 38 in
Hips: 45 in
Thighs: 25in

Here is a look at my inches measured on Monday (October 14)

Upper Arms: 13 in (-1in)
Chest: Opps forgot to measure :)
Waist: 36 in (-2in)
Hips: 43 in (-2in)
Thighs 23 in (-2in)

So a total of 7in lost to date in addition to my 19 pounds.

I have to update a picture in the same clothes that I took my "before" pictures in, but just really quick, here is a comparison to date!

Again, I'll repost some with the same outfit on so you can see hopefully a difference a little better :)

Lets hope by the end of November I am down another 10!! I am patiently waiting to purchase a dress for the Stenson-Gervais wedding until I know what size I will need!

Lots of super exciting things happening in my life, including being able to update everyone on my progress via my blog.  I am so thankful for all of the support, and wouldn't be able to do this if everyone wasn't behind me! I love all of you so much!

The Day I Ate a Cupcake and Decided to do a Fitness Competition..

I thought today I would attempt to be clever with my title, but it is a true statement.  I was attempting to wait to write a new blog post until I had the opportunity to put new pics up, but this was just too good of a story, so I couldn't wait.  Now let me be really clear, I have no intention of doing a fitness competition any time soon ha, I have just decided that when I do get to my goal weight, I will start training for one.  I know this is a ton of hard work, but I am super excited about it!  I can't wait for you guys to continue to follow me on that journey!

Now for the cupcake... I am down 13 pounds so far, so I celebrated on Saturday with a "cheat meal" on before the ASU vs. USC game (which we dominated! Go Devils!) with an in n out burger.  No cheese, and split the fries with my mom.  I was not feeling guilty at all about my "cheat meal" because I believe occasionally you need to have those!  So Sunday was my cousins 16th birthday celebration.  I ate fine all day, and planned to get 2 small plates at Olive Garden that Evening.  I had a couple ounces of chicken breast at Olive Garden with some asparagus.  Then we got to her house.. and they had GINORMOUS beautiful raspberry filled cupcakes.  I had already made the decision that I wasn't going to have any cake.. but a CUPCAKE was a totally different story.  Needless to say I ate it, and felt sick after and still feel sick today.. SO NOT WORTH IT!! I wasn't feeling guilty after the In-N-Out but I am feeling super guilty about the cupcake... Looks like a couple extra miles of running for me this week.

I did weigh myself this morning.. I didn't lose any BUT I didn't gain any either so I suppose its a wash, but it is upsetting to not lose anything.  I really need to step up my fitness this week..

On Tuesday (tomorrow) I am starting a 45 day challenge at Pure Barre... 45 days 45 classes... WTF was I thinking when I put my name on the list!?! Also, I am  having major anxiety over the fact that the Vegas Half is in 45 days... UMMM HELP! I can run a little over 3 miles, if you aren't familiar with a Half, its 13.1! Awesome.. 10 more miles and I'm good...AHHHH!! Time to bump up the running, and Pure Barre will definitely help with the strength side of it, so hopefully by some sort of miracle, I will be ready come November 17th.

I have a couple of side notes, I have an interview this week with Lululemon to become a part time educator, so that should be awesome, work some extra for the Christmas season.  Wish me luck! Another side note, I have discoverd this meal prep carry bag, the Six Pack Bag, has anyone every used these? I would love to hear some reviews? Below is a picture of them:

Hope everyone has a great week, and I promise to put updated pictures up soon!

10 POUNDS DOWN!

I have to start my blog post today with a special shout out to my very best friend, Stephanie Oakes, for losing 102 pounds so far on her weight loss journey!  I have decided to focus this blog post on the inspiration she has been to me. Hopefully I don't offend her in any way, because I am the exact same and will loop it back to myself!

Stephanie has tried several dieting strategies since I have met her.  Steph has tried HCG (and it worked, but not long term), calorie counting, and exercising.  None of these things really fit into her life, which is why she chose to start Medifast about 9.5 months ago.  I could not be more proud of her for taking this leap, she was unhealthy and she knew it, and now she looks absolutely fantastic.

Stephanie and I have always tried diets together, and have always TALKED about working out together, but it never fully happened.  I mean its hard to give up drinking, diet coke, and fast food tacos from Del Taco at 2am, but at some point, I think we both realized 1. We want to live longer, 2. We want to look and feel good! And let me tell you, Steph looks AMAZE.  She hasn't boasted about her weight loss (which I can't figure out why) and is still the same humble, beautiful woman I have always known, which is why she is my biggest inspiration.

All of my friends and family members have been so incredible, and it is definitely motivation for me to lose weight after my breakup, but because Stephanie has pulled off such an amazing transformation and is still going strong, I know I can do it too.  Mainly because we had some of the same habits.  If someone can turn their life and health around like that, and stop making excuses, what makes me different??

I'm feeling really good about already being 10 pounds down.  I notice that I am feeling really full after eating now, and not as hungry as I was when I first started.  I have been able to get salads out as well which is nice, and those are VERY filling.  Today I put on fitted dress shirt, that was always pretty tight on me, and the buttons would open a little across the chest, and that was not the case! I am starting to notice it in my clothes big time which is the best feeling EVER! My jeans are for sure getting lose, but I'm just going to wear baggy clothes until I look like a bum, because I don't want to buy too much until I'm closer to my goal weight.

All in all, things are going well, I made it through New Orleans, which was so incredibly hard, and I got a little cranky I have to admit.  Traveling with the food was easier than I thought, other than getting stopped at Security.  The hardest part was that some of my family kept saying "you can have a cheat meal" when I really didn't want to.  I had one Beignet while I was there and it was the most amazing thing I have had in my life :) If I can make it through that, I can make it to my goal weight.

Again, biggest congrats to my beautiful best friend Stephanie, on losing 102 pounds in less than a year, and keep up the great work!! You are doing amazing and I love you! :) I  can't wait to show off our new bodies in 2014, and also have the shopping trip of our lives!

Side note: Let us never forget..

Week 2 Complete

Hi Friends! :)

Well I have completed week 2 successfully, and am starting week 3 as of TODAY! So far everything is going well!  I am down a total of 8 pounds.. I have to figure out how to edit my ticker on the side so you can easily see what I am down.

I am staying pretty full, and enjoying most of my food so far (see pictures below).  There have been a few things that have grossed me out, like the Chicken Breast and the Burger wasn't too appetizing, but for the most part the food has been pretty good.  I went out to eat, and ordered a salad twice, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be.  I kept it pretty plain, chicken breast, veggies, no cheese and fat free dressing.  I also had 2 glasses of wine.. maybe I would have lost 5 pounds again and not 3 this week if I didn't have those 2 glasses, but oh well :) I have to hit up the grocery store tonight and get some stuff to prep for the rest of the week.  Again, true test is going to be NOLA this weekend.  I want to lose another 2 before Friday to put me UNDER 200lbs. I will be ECSTATIC if that happens.  I am slammed this week so its going to be tough to find time to run, but that's just life I suppose.

I think the hardest thing for me so far is drinking enough water, and remembering to eat! It is hard to eat 6 times a day.  And I just want French Fries :( haha

I took some time to prep some food last night, and that is really helpful, it only takes an hour, and I just have to grab and go with my snacks or "powerfuels" and "smartcarbs"

Below are some pics of some more of the meals I have eaten!

Lunch one day! Chicken Parm (wasnt crazy about it) and shredded chicken on the side
Chocolate Doughnut in the am (the chocolate melted off), Chicken Parm, and a pizza for dinner! Yum! Pizza was awesome!
Shredded Chicken for lunch with mashed potatoes, asparagus, macarroni and cheese, and a piece of toast for dinner!

Breakfast one day: Honey Whole Wheat bagel, and Sweet and Sour chicken for dinner with some toast

Well I didn't have a great week with running, and I definitely didn't make it to Pure Barre as many times as I would have liked. I am also feeling guilty about my exercise this week as well.  I haven't worked out since Monday and today is Wednesday! I can't make it to Pure Barre tonight, and I am going out of town on Friday.  I might try to get in a quick run today and tomorrow, but it is so difficult when I feel like I have 100 other things to be doing.  Need some motivation to run considering my half is in 2 and a half months, and I have the Hot Chocolate Race in December, and I'll probably do the Womens 5k at the  beginning of November.

Wish me luck this weekend in NOLA I'll need it!

As Promised...

As I promised all of you, here are my "before" pictures.  I actually have lost about 4 pounds before these were taken, BUT it will be nice to see some progress next month at this same time!  This is taking a lot of courage on my part, but a good way to keep me accountable!

Not too sure what I'm looking at! :)

Week One of Nutrisystems

Hello Beautiful People! :) I have a couple of goals with this blog.  One is to make sure I post once a week about how everything is going, and two is to post pictures once a month so you can see my weight loss! I will update this blog post later today to feature my pics and measurements.

I started my meals on Tuesday, and have been so surprise at how delicious they are! I am totally hooked.  As I mentioned when I started, my starting weight is 208, I weighed myself this morning (which I know I should have waited a week) and I have already lost 3 pounds, so I am down to 205!!!

My short term goal is to be below 200 when I go to New Orleans on September 6th.  And don't worry I won't be cheating in NOLA, I will be packing my meals and taking them with me! (Stay tuned that will be a good Blog post!) That will really test my will power.

This week I was kind of bummed I didn't make it to Pure Barre as much as I would have liked, I took three classes since Sunday, and have scheduled 2 this weekend.  I also ran over ten miles combined with my runs from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Last night was REALLY tough.. My legs were like Jello from Sarah's class at PB, and running three nights in a row.

Below you can see some pictures of some of the food I have been eating the last couple of days! Like I said it has been REALLY good, and I actually have been full, not once have I felt like I need food which is awesome.  It is actually difficult to eat 6 times a day even if they are smaller meals.

If anyone is thinking about doing Nutrisystems, Costco has some discounted gift certificates right now, $54.99 for $100 worth of food, which means that one month of food is $157 dollars or something like that.. THATS ISANE, you can't even buy a month of groceries for that price.

Day 1: Blueberry Muffin for Breakfast with a coffee protein shake, tuna for a snack, kung pao noodles and string cheese for lunch, and grapes for a snack!
Day 2 : Sweetened O's and 1/2 cup skim milk for lunch with a Vanilla protein shake, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for snack, loaded baked potato for lunch with Tuna, and an apple for an afternoon snack.
Day 3: Chocolate protein shake and turkey sausage and egg english muffin for breakfast, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for a snack, Hamburger for lunch with string cheese, and an apple for a snack

I will keep posting pictures of some of the food that I am eating.  The main idea of Nutrisystems is smaller portions (as you can see with that burger!) and more meals throughout the day.  Like I mentioned above, I will update later with some photos of me! Happy its Friday! :) :)

Feelin The Love

WOW!! I guess I can believe it, but for the sake of this sentence, I CANT BELIEVE how much support I am already getting.  This is so crazy and I am so thankful! I definitely need help along the way and I am so not afraid to admit this.  All of the love will keep me going for sure.

Oh! I hope I can get a hang of this blog thing! I want to make it look all cute! Any help is welcome!

I am supposed to get my meals tomorrow, and I plan on starting everything up next week.  Probably Tuesday (Monday we are celebrating some family birthdays and I'm sure going out to eat)  I am also wanting to get one last sushi meal for hopefully the year, over the weekend.  I love it too much and need to fulfill my one last craving.

I went for a run last night with my dad... WELL a JOG.. lets be real, I don't RUN.  3 Miles was tough, but my sister said something that stuck with me..."The days you don't want to go but do are the days you get stronger" or something along those lines.  It was a hot one, but we completed another 3.2 miles, and I'm SOREEEE today!

I'm taking today off from working out, possibly tomorrow too.  I have to have some me time :) but will be back at it on Saturday.  I'll try my best to post some "before" pics and measurements this evening or tomorrow.

So excited for all the support, and stick with me on my journey!! :)

Well Here Goes Nothing!

Well here goes nothing!

I have decided to start a blog to track my weight loss journey.  At the  beginning of this year (January 2013) my boyfriend at the time and I had decided to start making a "lifestyle change" and eat healthy, and make working out together a goal.  We did great for the first... hmmm... MONTH. I joined Weight Watchers, and he became Paleo.  My goal was to lose 90 pounds by January 2014.

Cut to August 2013, and I am just starting this blog, which means it didn't go great!  I lost 22ish pounds by August, and my boyfriend broke up with me 3 weeks ago.  I am still working out and am actually obsessed with going to PURE BARRE, and starting training for my third half marathon.  Right now I weigh... AHHH... 208, and want to be 138.

I thought about starting a "break-up blog", but the more I thought about it, the more I decided that this was a perfect time to refocus on myself, and my goals, and work on becoming a thinner, happier, healthier version of me.

The reason I am starting this blog is to be held ACCOUNTABLE for what I'm doing.  I joined Nutrisystems with the help of my dad, and I can't believe that I am planning on putting before pictures of myself up, and even disclosing my weight, but if this is what it takes, then I can't wait for my WEIGHT transformation.

I am excited to share my experience with you guys, and I hope that I can inspire some along the way.  I will blog about other stuff too, maybe recipies, or maybe just everyday life, but plan on seeing lots of photos, lots of good days, lots of bad, workouts, etc.

Glad you are on this JOURNEY with me!
